A friend of ours moved to Vancouver, not being one to pass up on an opportunity for free accommodations - we visited. They had a condo on Kitts beach, fabulous location but the cost of real estate is scary.

View of the Condo (somewhere in there) from Grouse Mountain. We did the aptly named Grouse Grind, it is to this day one of the hardest hike I've done.

| We visited the Vancouver aquarium and thoroughly enjoyed our conversation with a very animated beluga. The Anemone was more of a silent type.

Visited Whistler... no we did not ski. The accommodations are a little pricey so we stay in the tent (It's 1994 and western society has not yet had a chance to spoil me for the simple thing in life). |
On to Vancouver Island - Victoria, Chemainus, Tofino & Ucluelet
Tea at the Empress Hotel with tante Jeanne. We visited the charming Butterfly World, it was novel in 1992 and there were goats eating the grass on the market roof next door. |

The local fauna was very cooperative!

| I was very surprised at how much I enjoyed Butchart Gardens... didn't think I was a flower guy! | ![]() |
| We briefly visited the mural and totem city of Chemainus. | ![]() |

We checked in at he Nylon Hovel (my tent) that just happened to be, on that day, located on Long Beach. |
The locals were friendly, except this one who wanted to eat our food. Lesson learned #1 - don't set up your tent by the food cache.

One of the more interesting hike was on a boardwalk (lame but welcomed after the Grouse Grind) and no we did not find any bog mummified human remains. |
