Jean's Title Page The cyclone is a project in progress, as is this WebSite. This Cyclone is based on Bill Pentz' design, Bill has been a great resources for us. Massive amounts of information on Dust Collection and Cyclone design can be found on his WebSite -Bill Pentz Cyclone Information
This cyclone project started in June 2003. Steve C. built his cyclone and offered to coordinate a group-buy of 220v 5 hp Leeson motors to be used in a cyclone dust collector. Steve continued to be a great resource for those interested in building their own cyclone.
This is the clamp that Ed built. It made clamping the cone section of the cyclone possible. (quite ingenius - Ed).
Cyclone Build with Ed & Jim, Apr 2004

Ed, Jean, & Jim after a hard day of rolling Cyclone bodies & cones. We built the Blower Housing using the CNC cut panels (Thank you Mike), fitted the laser cut 20 ga sheet metal (sourced for us by Scott - Thanks), mounted the 14" material mouvement fan (thanks to Rajiv & Ed) to the 220V 5 hp Leeson motor that Steve bought at a great price (thanks again).

Laying out the reference lines to help roll the cone. Ed engineered a rolling jig set up on his lathe, sure made all the rolling we did much more efficient.

You see here the cone in the rolling jig on it's 2nd or 3rd pass. We then doubled the cone on itself and rolled again.

You wouldn't think this was the hard part - but for the first few days of the build Ed was the only one of us that had the knack of rolling this stuff. Ed's Clamp in action. Notice that the clamp was designed to work with the stress bow in it.

We tack soldered the Cyclone body with the form clamped inside. The clamp is also very useful while soldering the Cyclone body.

Soldered the cone to the Cyclone Body This is an Ed quality joint Alternate Clamping Method
Soldered Inlet Inlet inside the cycloneAnd finaly the cyclone metal fabrication is done. 4 Cyclones, 3 guys, and about 80-100 hours later.
